by Hannah Weiner

Hannah Weiner’s Page is the final, major, unpublished work of the notorious, clairvoyant poet who died in New York 1997. Completed in 1990, Page uses Weiner’s combination of family, TV cartoon, and high-art diction to weave a unique view of the individual interacting with society. The reader gets the sense that the poet is just barely hanging on, tenaciously, tenuously, and touchingly. Hannah has the ability to make you sympathetic and needy, exposing your humanity to you in every phrase. Hannah Weiner was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1928 and died in Manhattan in 1997. Page, completed in 1990, is the first posthumous publication of her work. Weiner's books include The Clairvoyant Journal, Little Books/Indians, Spoke, Silent Teachers/ Remembered Sequel, and We Speak Silent Her papers are housed at the Archive for New Poetry, Mandeville Special Collections Library, at the University of California, San Diego. Weiner's home page is located at the Electronic Poetry Center.
